A 6mm tile bit. Glazed tile defeats an ordinary drill bit twice over: the glaze is hard enough to blunt a twist bit immediately, and it is brittle enough that the hammer action a masonry bit needs will crack the tile straight across. A tile bit solves both with a hard spear point that scratches its way through the glaze under steady rotation and no hammering at all. Six millimetres is the size that matches the common wall plugs, so it is the one used for fixing bathroom and kitchen fittings - rails, mirrors, soap dishes, cabinets, shower screens - into a tiled wall. Mark the spot with tape to stop the point skating, drill slowly with the hammer switched off, and go through the tile before you switch to a masonry bit for the wall behind.
