Steel Bit - (8mm)

An 8mm twist drill bit for steel and other metals. This is a clearance-hole size rather than a pilot size: the hole an M8 bolt passes through in a bracket, base plate, gusset or hanger. Drilling it well needs more attention than the small sizes, because a bit this wide generates real torque and will snatch as it breaks through - hold the work properly clamped rather than by hand, run the drill slower than feels natural, and ease the pressure right off as the tip comes through the back face. Start with a smaller pilot in thicker material so the point does not wander. Cutting oil makes a substantial difference to both the finish and the life of the bit at this diameter.
