A 5mm twist drill bit for steel and other metals. Five millimetres sits between the small pilot sizes and the bolt clearance sizes, and it earns its keep on the fixings in between: clearance for M5 screws and studs, larger pop rivets, mounting brackets and trunking, drilling enclosure and panel work, and opening a 4mm hole out for a slightly bigger fastener. Big enough not to snap under normal pressure and small enough not to snatch as it breaks through, which makes it one of the more forgiving sizes to drill with. Hammer action off, moderate speed, and a punch mark first so the tip does not walk. On anything thicker than sheet, a drop of cutting oil roughly doubles how long the edge stays sharp.
