Steel Bit - (3mm)

A 3mm twist drill bit for drilling steel and other metals. Unlike a masonry bit, which chips its way through with a carbide tip and hammer action, a steel bit cuts a continuous chip with ground flutes, so it needs the hammer switched off and a slower speed than most people use. Three millimetres is the small end: pilot holes for larger bits and for self-tappers, drilling thin sheet and light section, riveting work, name plates, brackets and electrical enclosures. Small bits snap easily, so keep the drill square to the work and ease off as the bit breaks through the far side, where it wants to grab. A drop of oil on steel keeps the edge alive considerably longer.
