A roofing bolt measuring half an inch long by a quarter inch across. The head is what defines it: broad, shallow and domed, so it spreads its clamping force over a wide area of thin sheet instead of pulling through it, and sits close enough to the surface not to catch. Half an inch is short, for clamping sheet to sheet or sheet to a thin section rather than reaching into timber. Used on iron sheet roofing laps and ridges, gutter and fascia assemblies, tank and drum panels, ducting, and light steel fabrication where a countersunk head would tear the material. It takes a nut on the far side, so both faces must be reachable. Use a washer under the nut on thin sheet to spread the load there too.
