A pipe wrench, ten inches long - the size most plumbers own if they own only one. Two inches longer than the small pattern gives noticeably more leverage and a wider jaw capacity, which is the difference between turning a stubborn fitting and standing on the handle of something too small. The toothed jaws bite into round surfaces and grip harder the harder you pull, which is what lets it turn pipe, unions and valves that have no flats for a spanner. Used across domestic and light commercial plumbing, water and gas fittings, tank and pump connections, and general pipework. It marks whatever it grips, so keep it off chrome and finished surfaces, and use two where a run would otherwise twist.
