MDF Screw - (5 x 60)

Cavalry MDF screws in gauge 5, 60mm long. It sits between the 50mm and the 70mm and takes the carcass work that falls between them: standard-thickness wardrobe and kitchen sides fixed into tops and bottoms, fixed shelving that will be loaded, counter and bench framing, and rails and cleats into a full-thickness panel. Sixty millimetres is often the better choice over seventy on 18mm board, where the longer screw reaches so far into the second piece that it risks breaking out at a corner. The gauge 5 shank carries more load than the gauge 4, and the sharp cutting thread goes in without swelling the board around it. Pilot near an edge and clamp the joint tight while driving; board does not pull up like solid timber.
