A masonry drill bit of 8mm diameter and 160mm overall length. Where the 6mm handles everyday fixings, 8mm is the size that goes with the larger plugs and light anchors - the holes drilled for shelving that will carry weight, brackets, gate hardware, heaters and pipe supports. The wider tip needs more from the drill: use hammer action, let the bit work at its own rate, and expect it to slow markedly if it meets reinforcement, which it will not cut through. Withdraw it now and again to clear spoil, because a hole packed with dust stops the tip biting and cooks the carbide. The 160mm length gives room to get through render and plaster and still reach depth in the material behind. Sold individually.
