Malpha Bit- (35mm)

A 35mm wood boring bit, held under the name Malpha. Thirty-five millimetres is not an arbitrary size: it is the standard cup diameter for the concealed hinges fitted to kitchen and bedroom units, which is why a bit of exactly this width sells steadily to anyone hanging cabinet doors. The bit bores a flat-bottomed recess into the back of the door so the hinge cup sits flush and the door closes tight against the carcass. Depth matters as much as diameter - bore too deep on a thin door and the cutter comes through the face, which ruins the door rather than the bit. Use it in a drill held square, ideally in a stand or jig, and clear the waste as you go. Pairs with the hydraulic hinges on our shelf.
