Steel link chain of 3mm wire, the size the trade calls one eighth, sold by the metre so you buy the length the job needs rather than a whole coil. Three millimetres is light chain: hanging signs, lamps and planters, securing gates and small equipment against casual theft, guarding and barriers, dog runs and tethers, swing and hammock fittings, and holding covers, sheeting and tarpaulins down. It is not lifting chain and should not be treated as one - a chain rated for a load is marked as such and this one is not. Pair it with a shackle, a hook, an eye bolt or a padlock as the job needs. Galvanised or plain finish is not recorded here, which decides how it fares outdoors.
