Hammer - Tack (#14)

A tack hammer, size 14. A light head is the whole specification: driving a panel pin, a tack or a small nail with a full-weight hammer means either bending the pin or missing it and denting the work, because the head is too heavy to control at the small end of the swing. This one has the mass for the job and no more. Used for pinning beading, mouldings and trim, fixing panel and hardboard, tacking fabric and mesh to frames, upholstery and canvas work, glazing beads, and picture and frame assembly. Hold small pins with pliers rather than fingers for the first taps. It is not a hammer for nails into structural timber, where a light head simply means many more blows.
