A ball pein hammer with a quarter-kilo head. It is the engineer's and metalworker's hammer rather than the carpenter's: one face is flat for striking, and the rounded pein opposite it is for peening over rivets, spreading and shaping metal, starting a punch, and working into a curve where a flat face cannot reach. A quarter kilo is light, which means control rather than force - the right weight for punch and chisel work, riveting, panel and sheet shaping, setting pins, and tapping parts together on a bench without deforming them. Never strike hardened steel with it, and never use it on a chisel whose head has mushroomed. Check the head is tight on the shaft before use; a loose ball pein head is dangerous.
