Gypsum Screw - (6 x 1/2-inch)

Cavalry gypsum screws in gauge 6, half an inch long - shorter than any board fixing needs, which tells you what they are actually for. At this length the screw is joining the framing rather than fixing the board: stud to track, angle to channel, splicing sections, and holding out temporary framing before boarding starts. It is also used for the very shallowest second-fix work, beads and trims on thin substrates, and access panel hardware where anything longer would foul something behind. Same bugle head and self-starting thread as the longer lengths. Keep them separate from your board screws on site: half-inch screws mixed into a box of one-and-a-halves cause boards that come loose weeks later, because nobody notices the short ones going in.
