Cavalry gypsum screws in gauge 6, one inch long - the short end of the range. A shorter screw is not a weaker choice, it is the correct choice when there is less to go through: thin board, a single sheet onto light metal stud, cladding a soffit, fixing trims, beads and access panels, or any place where a longer screw would burst through the far side or hit ducting and cable behind. On metal stud especially, the extra length of a longer screw is wasted and can foul services in the void. The bugle head sets itself flush and dimples the paper for filling. Coarse-threaded, driven straight in with a star bit. Keep both this and the 1.5-inch in the van: most jobs need both, and reaching for the wrong length is what puts screws through pipes.
