It is the least considered component in any assembly and quietly one of the most useful: placed under a bolt head or a nut, it spreads the clamping force over a wider area, which stops the fastener sinking into soft material, tearing through thin sheet, or pulling through an oversized or slotted hole. It also gives the nut a clean flat surface to turn against, so the joint tightens properly instead of the nut digging in and binding. Used on bracket and machine mountings, gate and frame hardware, roofing and sheet fixings, timber assemblies and anywhere the hole is larger than the bolt. The size and material of this one are not recorded, so match it to your bolt at the counter.
