Angle Valve

An angle valve, the small shut-off valve fitted where a supply pipe leaves the wall and turns up to a fitting. Because it isolates one outlet rather than the whole line, a tap, cistern, water heater or washing machine can be serviced or replaced without shutting off water to the rest of the building - which is why plumbers fit them as standard on new work and add them during repairs. The angle body does the turn from wall to fitting in the valve itself, saving an elbow and keeping the pipework tight against the wall behind a basin or WC.
